FAA Student Handbook: General Education Requirements

General Information

The Campus Senate, the faculty General Education Board, and the colleges have developed campus wide common general education requirements. See www.courses.uiuc.edu/gened for a current listing of the general education categories and individual courses that satisfy each requirement on this campus. Students are advised that some general education requirements may be fulfilled by courses already required in the major. All FAA curricula require students to meet the minimum campus general education requirements for graduation. Some programs require additional general education courses. See the individual programs of study (www.courses.uiuc.edu/programs) for each curriculum for more information.

Approval for any course not contained in the campus general education list must be requested by written petition to the College Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, supported by an advisor and approved by the Associate Dean prior to registration in the course. Only in exceptional circumstances are such petitions grated retroactively.

Each course in the general education list has an effective date. If you took a course during its effective date(s), it will count toward the Gen Ed requirement. If you took it before or after its effective date, it will not count toward Gen Ed, but may be used for some other requirement.

Students are urged to consult their advisors regarding the choice of courses to complement their programs and to meet educational objectives. Some of the courses have prerequisites and/or require concurrent registration in another course.

The Credit/No Credit option may not be used for courses that are taken to meet general education requirements. For more information regarding credit/no credit follow this link Additional Scholastic Information. Petitions for the substitution of courses that do not appear on this list will not be accepted by the College of Fine and Applied Arts, as, this list is approved by the Campus General Education Board.

Because the General Education requirement lists may be revised twice per year, students are cautioned to confirm courses in the College Office, 110 Architecture, or on the Web at the link below.

Follow this link for the list of courses that satisfy the General Education Requirement
