Undergraduate Handbook: Preface
|
The primary purpose of this publication is to provide quick, easy reference to academic policies and procedures as well as other matters of interest to students and faculty in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. General information taken from various University publications along with specific information directly related to the College of Fine and Applied Arts is included. In addition, suggestions are given throughout the text regarding where to go and/or whom to see for further information. Many students encounter problems during their college careers which are not routine but are of a unique or personal nature. In such cases, they should seek the advice of the Assistant or Associate Dean in the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs of the College of Fine and Applied Arts (110 Architecture Building), an advisor, or one of their professors. No student problem is so small that it does not deserve personal attention on this campus. If the problem is significant in the mind of the student, then it merits the consideration of those whose responsibility it is to counsel students. Assistance is available to those who seek it, but the burden of responsibility falls primarily upon the student who must make his or her needs known to those in a position to help. This then is an open invitation to all students in the College of Fine and Applied Arts to come to the College Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs whenever they wish to discuss a problem (personal or academic). If one of the deans cannot be of direct help, we can refer the student to the person or office on campus best able to provide the assistance needed. The Emergency Dean at Emergency Dean Services: Office of the Dean of Students 300 Turner Student Services Building, 610 East John St. Champaign, Il 61820, Phone 333-0050. The Emergency Dean is always available to provide you with personal assistance in times of emergency, such as serious illnesses, hospitalizations, accidents, deaths or other major crises. The Emergency Dean is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Emergency Dean Service is staffed by the Office of the Dean of Students during University office hours and by on-call Student Affairs professionals at all other times.
