Authorization to Conduct Searches
The guidelines below apply when seeking approval to begin searches for
faculty positions and for academic professional positions (with
salaries at $30,000 or above).
1. Recurring state dollars for tenured or tenure-track faculty and
academic professional positions (with salaries of $30,000 or higher)
are lapsed into the College upon termination of employment (or during
extended leaves) within the units;
2. Recurring funds for subsequent hires will be distributed selectively
to the units based on the strength of the unit's proposal, priorities
within the College, and available funds;
3. In most instances, it is the expectation that lines will be vacant
for at least one year in order to cover payouts and other approved
expenditures; and
4. All positions will be filled at the entry level although exceptions
will be made occasionally for specific, well-argued cases.

The College asks units for requests in mid-August, to be submitted in early September.
