About Alumni

One of the greatest points of pride for the College of Fine and Applied Arts is its alumni.

Every day almost 30,000 graduates from the seven academic units in the Arts at Illinois are contributing to the advancement of the visual and performing arts and environmental design in significant ways -- exemplifying their excellent education from the University of Illinois. They are advocates, practitioners, donors, and patrons of the arts they studied here.

FAA alumni are Pulitzer Prize winners in composition, Tony Award- and Oscar Award- and Obie Award-winners as well as designers of the most beloved and used products in our culture, and are architects of many of the most significant and renowned buildings in the world, such as the Sears Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lampur.

Among our most accomplished alumni are . . .

  • Gerald Shoenfeld, known as the Father of Broadway
  • Ang Lee, renowned film director
  • William Stumpf, designer of the remarkable aeron chair
  • William Wegman, celebrated photographer of Man Ray & Fay Ray
  • Sheila Johnson, music educator, philanthropist & entrepeneur
