Search Procedures

Conducting a Search

Once a unit has received authorization to fill a faculty or academic professional position, the search process may begin.

Procedures to be followed in the College are outlined in the College of Fine and Applied Arts Academic Search Procedures. Complete campus guidelines for conducting searches may be found at: http://www.eoa.uiuc.edu/academicsearch.html

In general, some form of search process is required for almost every faculty and academic professional vacancy. National searches are normally required for tenure-track and tenured faculty vacancies. Regional and local searches may be approved for other non-tenured faculty and academic professional vacancies with appropriate justification. Exceptions to national searches must be justified. Rationale for justification might include: (1) accessibility to a sufficiently diverse pool of applicants, (2) time limitation, or (3) part-time/temporary nature of the position.

When a final choice is made in a search and a unit desires to extend an offer, the College EEO Committee must approve the search process. The unit executive officer should consult with the Dean on the finalists. Formal letters of offer are to be issued by the Dean.
