Welcome to FAA

The new Arts @ Illinois

...create a green future with us.

FAA units have pioneered many significant sustainability efforts to date. We want to acknowledge these efforts and support future eco-friendly endeavors. Power Down is an important first step in ensuring sustainable daily routines on campus.

The idea of powering down is an initiative of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative.  They have sponsored Power Down for the Planet competition for YouTube videos that share the Climate Savers Computing story with others. One team of Illinois students has produced the video "Computer Romance" for the competition:  Conner Lucas (LAS), William Fulara (A&D) Jim Targosz (Parkland).  Take a moment and enjoy their creativity in communicating the idea of powering down.  Feel free to send them an email.  It took 1000 pictures to make this. The team was cheered on by Mary Ellen O'Shaughnessey.

When Powering Down, be sure to turn off or unplug . . .

  • lights: desktop, classroom, hallway, and any others not needed during the break

  • desk-top and computer-lab computers, lap-top computer chargers, phone chargers, printers, and scanners

  • coffee pots, electric water heaters, microwaves, refrigerators (if empty), toasters, vending machines, and other small appliances

  • window air conditioners, humidifiers, air purifiers, desk fans, heaters, etc.

LOOK around and power down wherever you can. If there is an LED status light or LCD display that stays on, then the device should be unplugged rather than just turned off.

please don't forget to power down in bathrooms, hallways, classrooms, rehearsal spaces, studios, shops, conference rooms, and all public spaces.

Thanks for contributing to this important initiative.
